An impression and reason I love my E-1

Post by blimpman »

Last weekend there was an event at a local riding area that was sponsored in large part by KTM.

Mark Hyde had his semi there with all the 2010 & 2011 MX and woods bike models that you could test ride. I wanted to ride the 300XC-W. They had about a 3/4 mile tight, woods course set up for test rides.
I had always been told that the 300 had alot of controllable power that was constant and did not have the big hit...... or so I was told by owners of 300's.... They were fibbin'

Let me just say that this bike was like riding a rocket with nitro.... never got it out of 2nd gear. Holy crap... Just barely cracking the throttle and the bike was like a fire breathing monster..... scary power.... at least for me. ( riding it in the open, out west in the desert would have been alot different)

It just reinforces the best decision I ever made in buying a two stroke. The KDX 200. It may be 21 yrs old but it is so fun to ride my thumper has been writing me love letters trying to get me back into the saddle....
I am going to be riding this KDX for a long time....

I magine your whole problem was not getting it out of second gear

I've seen 60 - 70 year old men on 300's up on the hill. Looked like smooth tractable power to me. And they are so freaking quiet

I want one, I just wish they came in green

Yea, I know... The trail was very tight and technical so for a "C" rider, I was out matched.... If I had been riding for all my life I'd probably be able to thrash it a little more...

I rode alot as a teenager but just started again at 48 yrs old. I missed alot of fun!

Bigger motors, and sometimes even the KDX, could use a cammed throttle as the single most important mod to lessen death-grip inducing throttle response.
